Slater census number 204 to Egleston & Battelle, NYC
This cover was bought in good faith many years ago by Mr. D. L. Pickman of Boston and still has it. He knows nothing of its history. Note black 5 in circle similar to No. 203. It may be of interest to note that in my collection of US 1847's I have a diagonal split 10c 1847 on cover addressed to the same firm of Egleston & Battelli (Alexander 3484) from Boston, Mass., stamp well tied on by the Boston red grid. The genuineness of this cover has been strongly questioned {It is a fake.), and it certainly has been in bad company.
