Notes
Slater census number 203 to Nesmith & Walsh, NYC
This cover appeared in a German stamp auction by Markenund Ganzsachen of Berlin. The American agents were the J. M. Bartles Co. of New York. The cover was illustrated in the auction catalog. Slater noticed it and notified Bartles who promptly caused it to be withdrawn. The auction was at Collectors Club, New York City, November 3-4-5, 1921. The cut in the Providence collection was copied from the catalog illustration. The 5c and circle was in black. This was never used at Providence.
(Slater, p70)
An enlargement of the CDS shows the day of mailing to be the 27th. The month is faint and may be JUL but this is difficult to make out.
