Envelope franked as over ½ ounce with 2 x 5 cent New York Postmasters Provisionals and addressed to Trenton. The franking appears to have been disallowed and the cover rated due 10 cents. The explanation may be attributed to the letter being carried privately on the ferry from New York and put onto the New York and Philadelphia R.R. for Trenton at New Jersey where the "NY" and "10" in manuscript were applied. The 2001 PF Certificate 351169 intimates this.
