Notes
Chronicle 109
A horizontal pair of 9Xld on cover addressed to New Orleans. The stamps are from positions 32-33. Mr. Sheriff advises that the letter is undated and there is nothing in the contents of the correspondence to indicate the year of use. It is my guess this letter was mailed in 1846 since by April of 1847 most of the stamps on mail leaving New York were cancelled by square red grids.

HORIZ. PAIR, WITHOUT SIGNATURE ON FOLDED LETTER TO NEW ORLEANS. BLUE MS. CANCELLATION, RED S/L "PAID" AND NY PMK.
AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT
It Is A Genuine Usage ON A LAGE PART OF AN OUTER ADDRESS SHEET, AND WITH RIGHT STAMP FAULTY AND REPAIRED.
