Letter to Robert Caldwell Pearson (1807-1867), a prominent 19th-century merchant, postmaster, bank and railroad president, and civic leader in Morganton, North Carolina. Pearson served as the leading magistrate in Burke County for many years, managed gold mines and flour mills, and served as the postmaster of Morganton prior to the Civil War. He was also vital in the development of the Western North Carolina Railway and became its first President in 1855.
