Lot 129 #9X1, 5c black, position 23, ample to large margins, tied by neat blue pen stroke cancel on a November 27, 1847 folded letter to Boston, red PAID handstamp to the right of the stamp but no town postmark, very fin; a handsome cover from the very small number known used after the issuance of the first United States general issue on July 1, 1847; it has been suggested that this may be the latest known use of the New York Provisional.
