Lot 2018 New York, N.Y., 1847, 5¢ black on gray, signed ACM (9X3), horizontal pair, position 14-15, ample to oversized margins, marvelous color and impression, each stamp neatly cancelled by bold red PAID in arc with a third strike alongside on a folded cover to Greensboro, Ala. postmarked red "New York 10cts, Apr 30" c.d.s. Fresh and Extremely Fine.

Lot 143 9X1 5c black, horizontal pair, positions 14-15, ample to huge margins, wonderfully fresh with intense color, each attractively cancelled by a red PAID and repeated again to the right of the pair, Matching red New York / Apr. / 30 / 10 cts. Postmark with bar between month and day and with the 10 cts. In a straight line rather than curved around the rim of the postmark, on an immaculate Apr 30, 1847 folded cover to Greensboro Ala, very fine “extremely fine, the right stamp being a gem; extremely rare and one of only two recorded examples of this type of town postmark; cited by wall in the Chronicle of the U.S. Classic Postal Issues, No. 99, article on p170; ex-Grunin.
