Frederick R. Spencer (1806-1875) is listed as a portrait painter in the 1843 edition of Doggett’s. Originally from upstate NY, he painted professionally in Utica and Albany before moving to New York City in 1831. He lived in New York City until 1858, when he returned to Utica.
