Stamped red 1 (due) in center
H R Harmer sale 1070 (Caspary Sale 8, 2nd Session) lot 383 notes approx. one third of 6LB5 stamp. The most plausible explanation of the cover is that there was a drop letter charge of 2c of which 1c was paid by the split, the other 1c either paid in cash or to be collected, which would account for the large 1 in red on the cover. Sold on its merits.
The current Scott catalog lists this color shade as 6LB5b.
Docket October 12 at top may be date letter was written.
