Christoph Gartner sale 35 lot 4461
The date is either 23 or 25. Unfortunately, the addressee cuts through the upper portion of the digit making it hard to determine if the connection to the lower loop is on the right or the left. A strong vertical line appears on the left but a thin diagonal line appears on the right. Either may be stray ink or an image artifact.

27 Bank Street was the address of Hyacinthe Peugnet, teacher. Louis and Hyacinth Peugnet were distinguished officers in Napoleon's army, who left France after the downfall of the Emperor. They resided in New York, where they opened a school for boys, called Freres Peugnet School (Peugnet Brothers Academy). General Beauregard, of the Confederate Army, attended their school, and received his first instructions in military tactics from Louis Peugnet.
Alfred Nesbit Brown (1803-1884) was a member of the staff, although most of his educational activities were associated with the Church Missionary Society.
