Robert A. Siegel sale 747 lot 58 realized 160 notes 1844 folded letter discusses hospital reform, stamp with diagonal crease, and dates the cover as April 17.
Robert A Siegel sale 1223 lot 8323 dates the cover as April 11 and the letter as Nov 17, 1844 [???]. (front image)

Illustrated in the Kapiloff exhibit (courtesy of Richard C. Frajola). The placement of the stamp on an angle explains the diagonal file fold crease.
James Harper (1795-1869) was a printer located at 82 Cliff Street in NYC (1845 Doggett’s). He was also a publisher, with his brother John (1797-1875), first under the name J & J Harper and later under the name Harper & Brothers, when two other brothers (Wesley & Fletcher) joined the firm. In 1962 the firm merged with Row, Petersen & Co to become Harper & Row. In 1844, James Harper was elected American Republican Party mayor of New York for one-year term.
