Letter sent to Cornelia (Sands) Prime (1773-1852), wife of Nathaniel Prime (1770-1840) and mother of both Cornelia (Prime) Ray (1800-1874) and Edward Prime (1801-1883). Cornelia was the wife of merchant Robert Ray (1794-1876).
The other Mrs. Prime alive at the time was Charlotte Wilkins Hoffman, second wife of Edward Prime (1801-1883) (married 1836), who was a banker in the firm of Prime, Ward & King at 42 Wall Street. Edward & Charlotte had a daughter, Cornelia (b. 1829) from Edward’s first wife Anne Bard (1804-1834). Cornelia married August Ahrens in 1850.
The address, 18 Bond Street, was not Edward Prime’s residence. It was the office of John Gibson, a lawyer. Edward & Charlotte Prime lived at 1 Broadway (1843 Doggett’s) Neither Nathaniel nor Cornelia are listed but the Nathaniel Prime mansion was located in Hell's Gate between 1st and York Avenues and 89 & 90th Streets.
