CDS MAR 20 (1843) 4 O'Clock but with some doubling, making the date appear as MAR 28.
Robert A. Siegel sale 980 lot 2970 realized 180 dates this cover as MAR 20, 1843.
Robert A. Siegel sale 747 lot 44 realized 105 dates this cover as MAR 28
Illustrated in the Kapiloff exhibit (courtesy of Richard C. Frajola) where the letter is dated March 28, 1843, 4 O’Clock delivery.
Some doubling of the CDS on the right makes it difficult to determine the date, although the 2 is not heavily doubled. The date looks more like the 20th. The bottom of the upper 0 makes the sides of the lower impression appear indented toward the middle. The upper impression, although not complete at the top, is not indented.
