CDS reverse image shows actual dating with faint diagonal line at upper right, indicating a 3 (not a 5).
The 1845 edition of Doggett’s lists George P. Morris as the editor of the New Mirror on Ann Street on the corner of Nassau Street. He is also listed in the Information section as the editor of the Evening Mirror at the same address.
Letter addressed to George Pope Morris (1802-1864), co-founder of the New York Evening Mirror. On Jan 29, 1845, the Mirror published the first copy of “The Raven“ under the byline of Edgar Allen Poe. There is no mention of “General” Morris serving in the US military. Morris was also an acclaimed poet and songwriter.
