Samuel Bonnell Van Dusen (1818-1884) was the son of a pioneer shipbuilder in Philadelphia. He was a straw goods merchant in Philadelphia and then joined his brother in the coal business under the name Van Dusen, Brother & Co. He moved to NYC in 1861 to open a branch office and retired in 1875. In 1876 he became partners with John D. Dickerson and his son, Frank, in the metal business.
