Addressed to Reverend John Frederick Schroeder (1800-1857). He was Senior Assistant minister at St. Paul’s chapel in NYC until 1839 when he was replaced by a junior assistant minister and resigned. He moved his family to Flushing and established St Anne’s Hall, an institution for the education of young ladies. The school was moved to NYC in 1846 so this letter was mailed in 1843-45.
Note the postage (6 cents for under 30 miles) was in force prior to July 1, 1845.
