The US City Despatch forwarded this letter on or after March 30, 1844.
Letter Addressed to David S. Kennedy (1791-1853), born in Scotland and immigrated to New York in 1807. He started as a clerk in the commercial house of Lenox, Maitland & Co. and worked his way up to becoming a partner in 1812. In later years Mr. Kennedy became the agent for the Bank of Montreal and several other leading banks of Canada. He is listed as a merchant at 41 Broadway (1843 Doggett’s) and a banker at 58 Wall Street (1845 Doggett’s).
Howard’s Hotel was operated by Daniel D and John P Howard. It was located in Lower Manhattan at 176 Broadway at the corner of Maiden Lane.
