Letter written to Henry M. Ragge.
From the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Friday, March 21, 1845, page 2: “H. M. Ragge has been convicted in New York of forgery to a large amount, in which, it may be recollected, young [Henry M.] Saunders was implicated. The latter was used as State's evidence.”
The July 2, 1845 issue, page 2, reported Ragge was sentenced to prison for 5 years.
The Detroit Free Press on June 28, 1845 reported that Ragge was sentenced to Sing Sing prison for forgeries to Austen, Wilmerding & Co. (auctioneers).
