A very late usage of 9X1, 5c New York Postmaster Provisional, tied by two blue penstrokes and PAID in arc on Jun 21, 1851 folded outer letter-sheet to Pottsville, Pa.
Initials AC M. The A and C are clearly connected. The right blue stroke obscures any connection between the C and M.
Letter addressed to Andrew Russel from W. D. Widdingham.
Andrew M. Russel (1803-1864). Local newspaper records from The Miners' Journal show that he worked as an insurance agent in Pottsville during the 1850s, representing firms such as the Girard Life Insurance, Annuity and Trust Company of Philadelphia.
