A VERY FINE COVER. RARE WITH THE ST. LOUIS "BEAR" CANCELLED AND TIED SOLELY BY THE RED DATESTAMP. POSTMARKED WITHIN THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF ISSUE.
The first day use of a St. Louis provisional is November 13, 1845, which is represented by one 10c cover from the Charnley & Whelen correspondence. It is interesting to note that the sender of the cover offered here is William Nisbet, from whom much of the Charnley & Whelen correspondence originated.
