9X1 1845 5¢ black on bluish SINGLE, RED NEW YORK & ERIE RAILROAD CANCEL, ON COVER FRONT TO RAMAPO WORKS NY, MATCHING RED "PAID" AT RIGHT.
AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT
IT IS A GENUINE USAGE ON THIS COVER FRONT.
New York 5c tied with N.Y. & Erie R.R. postmark. The postmark and "5" appear not to match those recorded In Remele.
Written up in Chronicle 116 as suspicious due to lots of minor issues.
The same cover in a later transformation. The "5" has been removed, presumably to allay the suspicion this cover was originally stampless.
Aspects of these genuine cancels do not match those on the cover.
