Lot 31. 5c Black on Gray, signed ACM, Connected, Double Transfer at bottom (9X3 var) Pos 2, am outstanding example of this rare stamp, with large to very large margins all around, vivid bright color and a prooflike impression which nicely shows off the double transfer, tied to a clean folded cover to Baltimore by a light strike of the red square grid and matching partial New York / 8 Feb / 5 cts. cds, neither of which obscure the variety, matching PAID in arc at center, fresh and Extremely Fine. Among the finest, if not the finest, 5c New York Gray papers known on cover, 1992 PF certificate, Ex. Caspary. Cat $5250
