Prentis Dow (1803-1885) is listed as an executive broker at 50 Superior Street in Cleveland, Ohio (1845 Cleveland City Directory). He started as a fur merchant and then went into the general dry goods business before operating a paper mill in Cuyahoga Falls. He was elected cashier of the Merchants’ Branch Bank of the State Bank of Ohio, which was organized June 25th, 1845. Later in life he became an agent for a gun factory in Vermont and retired in New Hampshire near where he was born.
