Jan. 20" circular datestamp with matching "Paid" arc on folded cover to Philadelphia, vertical file fold affects stamp but is not very noticeable, Very Fine appearing example of the double transfer on cover tied by an early use of the red grid, ex Green

INITIALS - 5c-RATE COVER TO PHILADELPHIA; 20 Jan. 1847 (pencil note for year) E franked for the up to 300 miles rate from "NEW YORK" (fair red "5cts" c.d.s. on the front) to "Philad[elphi]a" franked by NY Postmasters Provisional 5c Black (Pos.2; showing double transfer at bottom, with red "A.C.M." initials of Alonzo Castle Monson; good to wide margins all round - light filing fold) tied by light red NY barred diamond and the frame of the NY c.d.s., having matching curved red "PAID" alongside.
