INITIALS - HORIZONTAL PAIR ON 10c- RATE COVER TO WASHINGTON; 21 Sept. 1846 EL (some whitening of the blued paper; mainly internal) franked for the 10c 300+ miles rate from "NEW YORK" (fine red "10cts" c.d.s. on the front) to "Washington" franked by a Horizontal Pair of the NY Postmasters Provisional 5c Black (red "A.C.M." initials of Alonzo Castle Monson; good to wide margins all round except LH stamp just shaved at lower left) tied by the New York 10 cts c.d.s., with matching curved red "PAID" alongside.
