Lot 151 9X1a 5c black, AC M initials, position 4, clear to huge margins, tied by blue pen strokes on a Feb 23, 1846 folded letter to Philadelphia, red New York / 5 cts postmark and arced PAID, blue R handstamp applied at Philadelphia indicating a recorded or registered letter (official registered mail began on July 1, 1855), minor cover edge wear, very fine; while this marking is not excessively scarce on 1847 issue covers, it is very rare on New York Provisional covers, there being only three or four recorded, ex-Pope. Est 1500-2000
