Lot 155 9X1a 5c black, AC M initials type a, position 30, large to huge margins, tied by red New York / 5 cts. Postmark on a July 31, 1845 folded cover to Prussia (Germany), matching red arced PAID, rated 1/8 (repeated as 20 pence) for Transatlantic postage, British transit, and carriage to Rotterdam, the port of entry, German postage was added and a total of 23 Grote was collected from the addressee, backstamps include a two line red script England / over Rotterdam, negligible aging, still very fine; the earliest recorded use of the A.C.M. type A initials and possibly the finest of the five recorded covers to Germany; signed Ashbrook; ex-Klep, Krug, and Sweet. Est. 5000-7500
