Head of Washington, black on greyish paper with Initials of Postmaster (A.C.M Alonzo Castle Monson) with red ink tied on cover to oversea (Sheffield, Great-Britain), obliterated with blue bars and red "NEW YORK 5 PAID JUL 31. At the backside Ship-Cancellation AMERICA LIVERPOOL AU 15 1845" and blue arrival canc. SHEFFIELD AU 16 1845" Certainly on of the earliest letters with a stamp to Europe, Scott 9XIa (ex Waterhouse Sale 1924).
