It Is Genuinely Used On Cover And The Stamp With MINOR AFFIXING WRINKLES.
Lot 627 5c dull blue on yellowish (4X1), the unique copy, lightly wrinkled and affixed with brownish gum to small white envelope addressed to Miss Achsah P. French, care of Theodore French, Concord NH, manuscript Boscawen NH Dec 13 postmark in the hand of Postmaster Worcester Webster at upper left corner, two small pieces of adhesive tape placed at sides by Arthur Hind, fresh and in excellent condition.
Pencil notation on back reads This is the Boscawen stamp described in my book on US Postage Stamps. So far as I know, it is the only copy in existence. John N. Luff
The only recorded copy of this postmasters' provisional stamp. One of the world's classic philatelic rarities. Comparable to the British Guiana one-cent magenta and Sweden three-skilling banco yellow. Illustrated in Luff's Postmasters' Provisionals (p23-24, pl. 1), Linn's Philatelic Gems (pp 141-142), Anphilex 1971 exhibition catalog (p 17). Mentioned in Williams Stamps of Fame (pp 113-115).
