Lot 1127 1847, 5¢ bister (Scott 1b var.), Ridgway Plate XXIX 15m, a lovely stamp with full, balanced margins all around and attractive shade, cancelled by faintest of all possible red grid cancels, on cover from Albany, NY to Macedon, Wayne County, N.Y.; red Albany Sept. 24 postmarks at right, red wax seal intact on reverse; stamp and cover remarkably fresh, Very Fine, with 2026 P.F. certificate noting shade.

Daniel F. Kelleher sale 847 unsold
Letter written to Mary Slocum (Howland) Thomas (1815-1900), wife of John Jacob Thomas (1810-1895). Mary’s grandfather was a minister of the Society of Friends. In turn, she became a minister of the Orthodox Friends in 1855. She was an ardent advocate of total abstinence, an anti-slavery worker, and a life-long supporter of home and foreign missions.
John J. Thomas removed to Palmyra in 1836, and started a small nursery, spending a portion of his time as bookkeeper in a bank. He next started a nursery at Macedon, with which he was connected until 1856, when he removed to Union Springs. (The Thomas Family, 1907, p54)
