Hill Carter (1796-1875) was the nephew of Ann; his father (Dr. Robert Carter) was Ann’s brother, both being children of Hon. Charles Carter, a member of the House of Burgesses at Virginia.
Therefore Hill Carter and Robert E. Lee were 1st cousins.
