Single with bold color and crisp detail, top margin just grazed, the other 3 margins are large, tied to Dec. 17, 1847 folded letter sheet from Mobile, Alabama to Indianapolis, IN, by red grid cancel with matching Mobile postmark at left. A portion of wax seal remains on the reverse, The stamp with faint vertical crease at left. Fine to very fine

Letter sent in care of Rev. Love Humphries Jamison (1811-1892). Rev Jamison was married to Elizabeth K. Robinson (1820-1909). Her mother was Rebecca Gazzam (Jones) Robinson (1795-1878). Rebecca had a brother, Edward Oldfield Jones, who was buried in Mobile Alabama (Find A Grave website)
