Letter to John S. Mann (1816-1879), Quaker attorney & merchant, part of the anti-slave movement before the Civil War. Along with his wife, Mary Williams (king) Mann, he operated a “stop” on the Underground Railroad in both his home and store. Also in the store were the printing office of the Potter Pioneer and the post office.
