This cover currently resides in the Charles A. Hirzel collection in the Museum für Kommunikation in Berne, Switzerland.
Letter addressed to Jane Margaret Atwood (1826-1911), fourth child of Henry Skelton Atwood (1795-1864) and Ann Margaret Mcintosh (1807-1893). Jane married George Hull Camp (1818-1907) in 1850 and had 7 children.
The Camp & Keeler Family Papers in the Hargrett Library at the University of Georgia lists many letters between Jane and George including a 11/1/49 letter indicating a marriage proposal from George to Jane, a 2/7/50 letter describing marriage and honeymoon plans, and a 4/9/50 marriage certificate.
The census contains 8 listed covers from Roswell to Darien addressed to Jane. One has a 5c stamp (12/27/xx, probably 1849) and the rest have a 10c stamp (1/3/xx, 1/31/xx, 2/5/xx – a possible duplicate of the 2/25 listing due to the very faint 2 in the cds, 2/7/xx, 2/25/xx, 3/7/xx – all addressed to Miss Jane Atwood, probably in 1850, and a 2/13/51 cover addressed to Mrs. George H. Camp).
