Notes
Scott #1, vertical pair, postmarked in Petersburgh, Virginia on September 26 (no year). The faintly written address is to Mrs. J. H. Smith, Grahamville, Beaufort District, S. C. Each stamp of the vertical pair is cancelled by a blue grid cancel (the same shade as the postmark), and the beauty of the cover is greatly marred by the large splots of brown-black ink on the stamps. Indeed, that makes it one of my ugliest covers.
There are no markings on the back of the cover.

There are three other covers to Mrs J Howard Smith in Grahamville, SC, all with vertical pairs of Scott #1.
