5c Red Brown (1). Horizontal pair, margins to in, tied by red grid, matching "Potomac Steamboat Sep. 29" circular datestamp on blue 1850 folded cover to Havana, Cuba, docketing on back reads "Messrs. Thierman & Pringle will oblige us by forwarding this letter pr. 'Isabel' Steamer - under cover addressed to Alex Baskin Esq. Havana. New York 28 Sept. 1850", additional docketing reads "received too late for the boat trip of the 'Isabel'", receipt docketing indicates arrival of Oct. 23, vertical file fold affects right stamp and cover with some wear, Fine appearance, scarce usage, carried outside of the mails to Cuba, unlisted in the Alexander census book

HORIZONTAL PAIR TIED BY INDESTINCT RED NEW YORK PMKS. ON FOLDED LETTER TO HAVANA, CUBA, RED "PATOMAC STEAMBOAT" PMK. (TOWLE G-21-a), MS. "PAID".
AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT
IT IS A GENUINE USE, THE COVER WITH TWO FILE FOLDS ONE THROUGH THE RIGHT STAMP WEAR AND SOILING.
Herman Thierman and J R Pringle were commission merchants at Adger’s Wharf in Charleston (1852 city directory). The March 25, 1851 edition of the Daily Constitutionalist (Augusta, ga) lists the S. S. Isabel as importing cases of sugar from Havana Cuba for Thierman & Pringle in Charleston.
