Ample to Large Margins, Rich Color, Fine Impression, neat ms. cancel, "tied" by filing crease & bend on Jan. 1849 Folded Letter to Richmond, Va., Used in Combination with Blood's Local (1c) Gold on Black (15L12), large margins except diagonal T.L. Corner, usual acid tie, ms. "5", Red "Potomac Steamboat" pmk., mostly readable strike. This marking was used on the water gap of the Great Southern Mail from Washington, D.C. to Acquia Creek, Va. (55 miles), letter is headed Germantown (suburb of Phila., Pa.), part of address eradicated, probably done at time of mailing, Blood's Advertising label on back fold, slight soiling, minor tape stain at B.L., A Very Rare 1847 cover
