Notes
A single US #1 Four Margin 1847 issue is tied by a red "RICHMOND Va. FEB 23" strike. The cancellation device that the Richmond postmaster used has a "hanging" "5" rate marking attached at the bottom. This letter being stamped--the sender having had the stamp or the Richmond postoffice not being out of stock that day--the postmaster off-struck the "5" of his device.
There is sealing wax on the reverse.
