Notes
The letter is datelined "Norfolk, Va. June 30, 1850" and is addressed "To the Clerk of the Court of Northampton County, Virga." The contents of the letter relate to inquiring as to whether or not Judge A. P. Upshur left a will and who would be the Executor. The letter is signed "Geo. Wingfield."
A single US #1 1847 issue is tied by a red "NORFOLK Va." strike. The Norfolk postmaster used a grid cancel to tie the stamp to the letter. The strike on the grid is wonderful.
