Scarce vintage Scott #2 Washington Imperf on 1849 folded letter, black cancel, Virginia(now WV), post office operated in Kanawha county 1800-June 20, 1863. Cat. Val. $1,500.

....promote the sweep of some work that may ultimately connect the Atlantic City with the Ohio river passing through Virginia......a rail road is the only phase.....eastern Virginia is if possible more interested, even the Tide water region than the west can be road....whether by Covington or some other out to Richmond....than any other route north its southern location would give it very great advantage over the Balt & Ohio R. R.....estimating the real value of the works of that to which have cost some 8 millions of dollars...making a substantial rail road to the Ohio river.
