Lot 328 10c black (2), four margins, tied by bold blue grid, matching Charleston SC 10 cds on orange cover to Boston, some cover erosion at TL, fine-very fine and quite attractive, the use of blue from Charleston on the 47s is quite uncommon, signed Ashbrook

Cover is addressed to Mrs. George Livermore (1809-1865), although I could not find anyone listed at 130 Congress Street in the Boston City Directories (1848, 1849, 1850, and 1852). This letter is addressed to his wife, Elizabeth (Cunningham) (1815-1893). George was a famous book collector in the mid 1800’s and was also in the wool business under the firm name of (Aaron) Erickson, Livermore & Company. Sterne Morse was also a partner in the firm. From 1848 thru 1852 (and perhaps before and after), the firm was located at 36 Pearl Street. Later, the firm changed to Livermore & Morse, and, in the 1860’s, was located at 130 Congress Street.
