Samuel Ellicott (1814-1880), son of John Ellicott, who founded Ellicott’s Mills (now called Ellicott City), Maryland with his brothers Andrew and Joseph. Samuel was a successful businessman, director and incorporator of the Montgomery Mutual Fire Insurance Company, and owned a gold mine in Brookeville, Md.
Brookeville was an agricultural and mill town developed around 1800 near Sandy Springs, Maryland by Quaker Richard Thomas and his wife, Deborah Brooke Thomas.
