Letter sent in care of Charles A. Welch in care of Richardson (AJ), Burrage (Johnson C.) & Co. (George Brown & E. Baker Welch), commission merchants located at 9 Morton block (1848 Boston City Directory)
The firm is not listed in the 1849 edition. A J Richardson is listed at 21 Pearl Street (bus) and Johnson C Burrage and E. Baker Welch are listed at 51 Milk Street.
The 1849 edition lists Charles A. Welch at 51 Milk Street and the firm of Dodge, Tucker & Co at 47 and 51 Milk Street.
So Johnson C. Burrage & Charles A. Welch both left the firm of Richardson, Burrage & Co sometime after March 19, 1848 and prior to the publication of the 1849 edition of the Boston City Directory (July 1849 to June 1850 but certainly finalized several months prior to publication)
Therefore, this cover was probably mailed in 1848, with a very slight chance it was mailed in 1849.
