In 1823, Lyman Granger and his brother, Chester, bought a furnace property in Pittsford, Vermont. In 1837 Lyman moved to Granville, NY and his younger brother, Edward L. Granger, formed an iron manufacturing business called C & E. L. Granger. In 1846, after the death of Edward, the firm was bought by George Hodges and was renamed Granger, Hodges & Co. Sometime before the Civil War, the company was sold to the Pittsford Iron Company. The gist of all this is that this cover was sent to Vermont, and not NY as stated in the PF certificate.
