It Is A Genuine Usage
Letter addressed to George Hay Stuart (1816-1890), Philadelphia merchant, Presbyterian lay leader, first Chairman of the US Christian Commission (founded the YMCA), and brother of John, James, Joseph and David Stuart that operated a banking firm with branches in Philadelphia, New York, and Manchester England. The New York Branch was founded by James and Joseph (J & J Stuart & Co.) and George worked there as clerk in 1837 and remained associated with it until it was liquidated in 1879.
