This cover was carried on Routes 605 and 476 to Albany via Buffalo and Cleveland to Detroit.

John Woods (J.W.) Brooks (1819-1881) was the chief operations manager and superintendent of the Michigan Central Railroad, having famously purchased the line from the state in 1846 alongside financial partner James F. Joy to pull it out of debt and complete its track to Lake Michigan.
