Hiester H Muhlenberg (1812-1886) was a physician. In the Panic of 1837 he was placed in charge of the Farmers Bank to keep it solvent and, starting in 1842, was elected Cashier of the bank. He held this position until his death. He also served on the Reading City Council and joined the military, serving in the Washington Greys as a private and, afterwards, as a Lieutenant. He was a director and president of the Reading Water Company and President of the Charles Evans Cemetery Company. At the time of his death he was the candidate of the Democratic Party for Governor of Pennsylvania.
