Note the similarity of the ‘F” in Mr. Oliver’s name to the ‘P’ in Penn Yan. The cross bar on the F may just be an ink smear.
There was no one named F. S. Oliver in Penn Yan in 1849. However, Google AI found Peter Sutphen Oliver (P.S. Oliver) who was a prominent resident of Penn Yan, NY, born in 1817 as the son of early local physician Dr. Andrew Freeman Oliver and Margaret (Sutphen) Oliver.
Peter S. Oliver (1817-1878) followed closely in the family's medical footsteps (father and brother William) and practiced in the Yates County area. In 1858, he also purchased the historic property now known as The Laurentide Inn from his uncle, Judge William Morrison Oliver.
