John Hubbard (March 22, 1794 – February 6, 1869) was the 22nd Governor of Maine in the United States. A graduate of Dartmouth College in 1816, John moved to Virginia and taught at a academy for two years before going to Medical School at the University of Pennsylvania (1820-1822). In 1830, following the deaths of his brother and son, John and his wife returned to Hallowell, Maine where he became one of the leading physicians in the state. He was elected to the Maine Senate in 1843 and became Governor in 1849. He failed to receive a majority in 1852 and was replaced by the Maine Legislature after signing the first Prohibition Law in the country in 1851.
