1847 5c red brown Franklin (Scott #1) single nicely tied by a light and unobtrusive blue grid cancel on a folded cover sent from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Baltimore, Maryland. Accompanying blue Philadelphia circular date stamp cancel at center of cover. The 1847 Issue 5c stamp, pays the under 300-mile rate for a letter weighing 1/2-ounce or less, exhibits a distinct shade and sharp engraved details along with ample to large margins all around. The 5c stamp has a light file fold running through it, which does not detract in the least from the very fine overall appearance of this 1847 Issue cover.
